Yellow Cactus

We have always gone camping as a couple and as a family. Way before we got a van, we would take the boys tent camping all over the country. This painting was inspired by a trip to Colorado where we stumbled upon an amazing place that we had never heard of. The Great Sand Dunes National Park feels magical. At the base of snow-capped mountains are golden dunes rising over 700 feet. They glowed from the other side of the valley. We had to explore. We set up camp right outside the park and there were many Prickly Pear cacti in bloom. I had never painted a cactus before so I turned it into a teaching video. Not only do you get a colorful, interesting work of art, you get to see how it was created.
